New writer hired for Pirates Of The Caribbean 5 | Den of Geek

New writing help is recruited to bring Pirates Of The Caribbean 5 to the big screen...

Thankfully, it seems as though Disney has been as good as its word with Pirates Of The Caribbean 5. The last movie may have been a massive success, but few people seemed to love it. And Disney, Johnny Depp and Jerry Bruckheimer all hinted afterwards that they were refusing to press ahead with a fifth film until the proper ingredients were in place.

It wasn't always looking so hopeful. Soon after the release of the pitiful Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, it was revealed that Terry Rossio (who has co-written every film in the series thus far) had been putting together a screenplay for Pirates 5, and that haste was once more taking precedence over making a good movie (at that stage, it looked as though the ingredients were bank notes).

That was back in 2011 though, and the latest on the project is that a screenwriter new to the franchise has been brought on board to work on the Pirates Of The Caribbean 5 script. Jeff Nathanson is the man who got the call (his previous work includes Catch Me If You Can, along with Rush Hour 3, Tower Heist and Speed 2: Cruise Control). Whether he gets to start afresh is unclear, but we'll keep you posted as we find out more...
