Green Exchange Leads green Chicago real estate Developments

Green Chicago real estateThe Green Exchange, the environmentally-sustainable business community located just 10 minutes from the loop, has once again been recognized for being a hub of green business. This time, they have been recognized by the Chicago Neighborhood Development Awards for their work of converting the old Cooper Lamp Factory into a LEED Platinum complex. The award was also given for enabling the bigger push for green Chicago real estate by proving that it is possible to develop and succeed at embracing the environment in design.

The transformation of the Cooper Lamp Factory into the Green Exchange has been one of the great success stories of Chicago, and has served as a beacon for future development since the project was announced in 2006. The Baum brothers purchased it, fought off desires to have it turned to condos, developed and renovated it. Now, the 270,000 square foot building is home to 30 companies at the forefront of supporting green building development and sustainability, including Coyote Logistics, GreenChoice Bank and Greenhouse Loft.

The building boasts environmentally-friendly features on a large scale, including organic roof garden, a 41,329-gallon rainwater reservoir, integrated recycling on all five floors, super high efficiency heating and cooling and an energy-efficient escalator. The building also has a whole new set of residents ready to help extend the sustainability: honey-producing bees to pollinate the roof garden.
