EMERGENCY ASSIGNMENT: For all nonbargaining unit positions, the following applies: Every FEMA employee has regular and recurring emergency management responsibilities, though not every position requires routine deployment to disaster sites. All positions are subject to recall around the clock for emergency management operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the official duty station, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee?s official position description. Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically austere and operationally challenging conditions. Job Summary:
This position is located in the Division of Occupational Safety and Health, one of the largest national office divisions reporting to the Solicitor of Labor. The Division is responsible for legal work arising out of the DOL?s administration and enforcement of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970 (OSH Act), and the whistleblower provisions of several additional statutes. This includes providing legal advice to DOL officials, as well as representing the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the Secretary of Labor in litigation before the Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission and federal district and appellate courts. The Division is also responsible for overseeing and participating in the conduct of litigation by SOL field offices; providing legal services in connection with rulemakings to adopt safety and health standards; and representing the DOL vis?vis other federal agencies, the legislative branch, states, private sector groups, and members of the public.
