Drobo have now announced that they have the Drobo 5D which is a 5 bay device taking normal 3.5? hard drives and the Drobo mini which is lightweight 4 bay unit that takes 2.5? ?drives. This means that SSD and hybrid drives can be used for the first time in a Thunderbolt RAID array.which has thunderbolt and USB3.0 ports and will provide customers with fast, reliable and expandable storage. Drobo are the first storage provider to offer both USB3 and Thunderbolt on the same device . Not only is the hardware improved but Drobo have?completely redesigned the software architecture. As a result the processing capabilities and the additional optimisations to BeyondRAID have increased the system performance by 5 times its? normal level. This makes the Drobo 5D and the new Drobo mini the fastest and most efficient storage facilities in their class. Both the Drobo5D and the Drobo Mini are available from Hardsoft through our?Flexible Finance Lease.
New features include a built in battery which protects data on the way to the drive. In case of a power failure, the battery allows the data to be written to non-volatile storage where it?s safe until the power is back on. This combined with a variable tuned cooling fan means that the Drobo5D is quieter than ever.
